Four local teams are still unbeaten after week four of the high school football season. Last week three of those teams held their opponents scoreless and are looking to continue that success with the region season starting soon.
Dutch Fork, Irmo, River Bluff and Batesburg-Leesville are the last Lexington County teams still perfect this year after Chapin and Swansea picked up their first losses last week.
The Silver Foxes have been dominating opponents all season and last Friday the team earned its third shutout in four games with a commanding 51-0 win over Oceanside Collegiate.
Quarterback Ethan Offing went 13-16 and had two total touchdowns. Running back Maurice Anderson added three on the ground to lead Dutch Fork.
Irmo and quarterback A.J. Brand continue to light up the scoreboard with explosive offense. Last week the Yellow Jackets defeated Myrtle Beach 38-12.
Brand finished the game 16-21 with 236 yards and a touchdown. He also made plays on the ground running for 107 yards and two scores. Receiver Donovan Murph had 10 catches for 145 yards to help Irmo improve to 5-0.
River Bluff is also 5-0 after responding to its close win over Gilbert with a dominant outing against Cheraw last week. The Gators won that contest 55-0 for their first shutout this season.
It was homecoming night for the Gators as they sailed to an easy victory. Darius Cane had a big game on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns.
Batesburg-Leesville is the third team to earn a shutout and the fourth to remain undefeated four weeks into the season. The Panthers have been one of the most surprising teams this season as they are clicking on all cylinders.
The team’s 60-0 win over Calhoun County was the second shutout this year by the Panthers. The first came in a 50-0 win over Wagener-Salley in week one.
Running back Amadre Wooden finished with 198 yards and three touchdowns. K.D. Whitt added 138 total yards and two TDs. Quarterback Tanner Watkins threw three touchdown passes, two of which went to Jemerius Clark.
Chapin and Swansea picked up their first losses this season. The Eagles lost to Summerville after their defense allowed the Green Wave to put up 53 points. Swansea lost a low-scoring battle against Barnwell 14-7.
Airport and Brookland-Cayce began region play last week looking for their first wins this year. The Eagles defeated Aiken 34-16 after freshman quarterback Jay Eady threw for, ran in and received a touchdown. The Bearcats got their first win after beating South Aiken 34-27. It was the first game with their new starting quarterback, Gray Collegiate transfer Dre Dopson. He returned from a medical procedure and threw for two touchdowns in his team debut.
Pelion and American Leadership are now the only two teams in the county without a win this season The Panthers lost to Mid-Carolina last week 49-14 and the Patriots had a bye and will be off until they play Saluda on Oct. 4. There is still a lot of season left for these teams to get a win and continue improving.
Elsewhere around the county, White Knoll defeated Cane Bay 49-13, Gray Collegiate beat Midland Valley 26-21 to begin region play and Northside Christian beat Spartanburg Christian 54-19.
There is one more week of out-of-region action for most teams. This is their final opportunity to make adjustments before games really start to matter for playoff seeding. Teams in the 4A Region 4 conference will play their second conference game after starting that portion of their schedule last week.
B.J. Montgomery scored three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score, to give Gray Collegiate a win in its region opener.
Maurice Anderson ran in three touchdowns as Dutch Fork defeated Oceanside 51-0.
Donovan Murph had 10 catches for 145 yards in Irmo’s big win over Myrtle Beach.
Tanner Watkins had three touchdown passes to lift Batesburg-Leesville over Calhoun County 60-0.
