Charlene Cromer Heyward

GILBERT – Charlene Cromer Heyward, 68, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 and went to rest in the arms of her loving Savior, surrounded by her family.

Charlene was born January 1, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of the late John and Irdell Cromer. Charlene grew up in the Augusta area and graduated from Hephzibah High School in Georgia. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and a master’s degree in education from Winthrop University. After graduation, she taught in Blythe, GA. She met her beloved husband, Henry, at Georgia Southern Uni versity, Statesboro, GA and they were married in Augusta, GA at Fleming Baptist Church. She was known for her ever-present smile and warm hospitality. Charlene loved her family, her church, and most of all her Savior, Jesus Christ. She enjoyed traveling to the beach and boating on Lake Murray and could spend hours visiting with her many friends, tending her garden, and enjoying the fresh vegetables that she grew. Charlene poured her life into her family and delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. Her selfless nature and willingness to always lend a listening ear or a big hug were a constant blessing to everyone who crossed her path. She was a member of Covenant Community Church where she served faithfully for many years.

Mrs. Heyward leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Henry Heyward; son, Justin Heyward (Mandy); daughter, Lauren Simmons (Jeremy); grandchildren, Walker Simmons, Rhett Heyward, and Wells Heyward; and her brother, John Andrew Cromer.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment following at Woodridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Covenant Community Church, 1302 Old Orangeburg Rd., Lexington, SC 29073.
