Dutch Fork graduate wins SC version of the Heisman

Posted

As Jalin Hyatt prepares for the NFL, the former Dutch Fork and University of Tennessee wide receiver was bestowed another honor from his home state.

The S.C. Football Hall of Fame named Hyatt the recipient of the 2022 Blanchard-Rogers Trophy. He will receive the honor at the 10th annual Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony on April 21 at the Hilton Greenville.

Given each year to the Palmetto State's best college player since 2013, the award, also known as the South Carolina Heisman, is named after Heisman Trophy winners Felix “Doc” Blanchard and George Rogers.

This past season, Hyatt won the Biletnikoff Award as the best wide receiver in college football. In earning first-team All-America honors from various outlets, including Wide Receiver of the Year from the College Football Network, Hyatt ranked fourth among FBS players with 1,267 receiving yards and tied for first in touchdowns with 15.

He finished with 67 receptions for 1,267 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.  During the season, he broke records for single-game touchdown receptions (with five against Alabama), single-game points scored (30 against Alabama) and single-season receiving touchdowns (15).  He also produced five games over 100 yards receiving and multiple touchdowns in 2022.

At Dutch Fork, Hyatt is the school's all-time leader in receiving yards (3,624) and touchdown receptions (57). He also won two state titles in 2018 and 2019, the latter coming on his game-winning touchdown reception in overtime against Dorman.

Hyatt is currently at the NFL combine as he prepares for the upcoming draft. Should he get drafted in the first round, Hyatt will be the fifth award winner to accomplish that feat.
