If you love to bake and create yummy peach desserts, then do enter your prized recipes in the Lexington County Peach Festival peach dessert contest. Your original recipe might win you a cash prize.

The contest competition categories include adults age 19 years and up and students age 18 years and under. Entries will be judged for a classic peach cobbler, and other peach desserts. First place prize is $50, second place $25 and third place an honorable mention ribbon. The deadline will be here soon. Gilbert Pack 60 Scouts held their final meeting for the school year last week. The Scouts enjoyed ice cream sundaes made with a variety of toppings. Pack 60 Scouts will again be selling peaches at the Lexington County Peach Festival. They will be riding on a float in the parade. During the summer, the Scouts will have many activities to enjoy, such as camping and movies.

Congratulations to Gilbert Middle School student Kadence Steen, who was awarded the Clemson University Project Wise Scholarship. She received it based on her grades, teacher recognition and a letter she wrote explaining why she should receive the scholarship. Steen will spend a week at Clemson to sharpen skills in science, technology, and math. She would like to be an electrical engineer.

Congratulations to Haley Boatwright who recently graduated from the University of South Carolina. She received a degree in Economics and will be moving to Miami, Fla.to work for a company in real estate research.

Shiloh United Methodist Church invites you to its monthly Lunch and Learn June 11, noon-1 pm. The topic is “Cruising the World,” presented by Mark Baker of Bakers View Travel of Lexington. Cost for the catered luncheon and program is $10. The church is at 1000 Springhill Road. For info and reservations, call 359-7586.

Pond Branch United Methodist Church invites you to its 2019 Vacation Bible School Athens. It runs June 10 through June 14, 6-8 pm. A light meal will be served at 5:30 pm. Pre-registration can be completed online at www.vbspro.events/p/pbumc2019 . The church is 1/4 mile off of I-20, Exit 44 at 1912 Pond Branch Road.
