GHS volleyball champs receive rings

For two consecutive years, 1996 and 1997, Gilbert High School Volleyball teams won the AA State Volleyball Championships. Twenty-three years later, both teams were presented their rings during half time by the GHS Athletic Department at the GHS football game September 6.

Both Volleyball teams received their medals in 1996 and 1997, but their rings were never purchased for them. Friday, the two teams received their long-awaited rings during a special ring ceremony.

Congratulations to GHS football player Jack Leaphart, who was selected as Gilbert’s Carolina Gold Construction Scholar Athlete for a local TV station’’s Game of the Week.

Congratulations to Kevin Hansen and Mike Martinez, who won the 1st annual “Cross Country Cornhole” tournament. This event was held at GHS prior to the Friday night football game.

Congratulations also to the GHS Indian Football team on its win of 31 to 14 over the Lexington Wildcats.

Congratulations to these 2019-2020 Gilbert Middle School Warrior and Honor Choir officers: Presidents Caroline Golff and Madisyn Moorer; 7th grade Vice Presidents: Alena Anderson, Caroline Beasley, and Charlie Godfrey; 6th grade Presidents Riley Beck and Peyton Comer; Uniform Chairmen Bailee Barklage, Gracyn Buzhardt, Triniti Praylow and Kaylyn Schumpert; Music Chairmen Nora Buzhardt, Joshua Corley, Charlie Laffin and Mackenzie Tate; Tomahawk Troubadours Presidents Caroline Beasley and Caroline Goff.

Last week, members of Gilbert Scouts BSA Troop 60 cleaned over half a mile of trash on Juniper Springs Road. Their hard work was in conjunction with the Adopt a Highway program. The Scouts worked two hours and removed 14 bags of trash and recycled an additional two bags of aluminum cans. The Scouts are selling popcorn at various locations in Gilbert to raise money to help fund their projects.

Beulah United Methodist Church invites the community to its annual Homecoming September 15. The church will have one combined service at 10 am. Afterwards, everyone is invited to stay for lunch. The guest minister for Homecoming will be Pastor Paul Harmon. The church is on Beulah Church Road. For info, call 892-2842.

Cottonbranch Farm Animal Sanctuary will have its monthly Volunteer WorkLuck Saturday, September 14 from 10:45 am until 3 pm. CBFAS calls this day WorkLuck because volunteers work at the farm, then at 2 pm they have a Vegan Potluck dinner. Volunteers help with mending fences, cleaning stalls, feeding the animals and more.
