Goldsberry receives Quilt of Valor

David Goldsberry was presented with the Quilt of Valor at the morning service at Convent Baptist Church May

26. South Carolina gives out more quilts than any other state in the nation. The mission is to honor all service members and veterans with quilts as a way of saying thank you for their service.

David served in the Air Force in Saudi Arabia and Dessert Storm. He is the recipient of several medals. He is currently a member of the Soldiers of Faith southern gospel singing group and worship leader at Convent Baptist Church.

Haley Brooke Gunter, a Pelion High graduate, recently graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in biology. She is the daughter of Gerald and Ronda Gunter and granddaughter of Sadie Wanna-maker. Her plans are to continue her education in the medical field.

The Pelion Ruritan Veterans Memorial Service was, once again, a crowded and beautiful service. It was hot as blazes but, thanks to Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, everyone had fans and bottled water to help with the heat. The Pelion Ruritan thanks the community for its support of this worthwhile event.

The Pelion High School Golden Panther Award was presented to Nick Bazemore.

Happy anniversary to Malcolm and Annette Lucas.

Pelion Library will host technology training June 12 at 10:30 am. Registration is required. Preschool storytime will be June 12 at 11 am for ages 1-5 years.

Tween Extreme meets June 11 at 3:30 pm and will create Pop Culture Cubeecraft. Cubeecrafts are three-dimensional paper craft characters that are cut out, folded and assembled. This event is for grades 4-7.

TeenScene meets June 13 at 6 pm creating a character based on a single photograph found on social media. Can’t Judge a Book by Its Cover is presented by Porkchop Productions for grades 6-12.

The Pelion Senior Center will visit Goodwill and Captain D’s June 7 at 10 am. June 11 will be a visit to First Baptist in Lexington, and June 13 the group will visit Beulah Methodist for a church social.
