Grammie camp creates lifelong memories

Posted

The highly acclaimed, internationally recognized Grammie Camp was established in 2011.

I appointed myself executive director with all the rights and privileges thereto.

The day camp for my 3 granddaughters is designed to get to know them and their unique personalities and build a relationship with them.

I want to create lifetime memories with swimming, picnics, card games and more.

The ground rules:

1. You must be over 3 years old.

2. You bring your 1st-time listening skills.

3. Bring your best manners.

Grammie Camp requires the same level of planning as a State Dinner. Occasionally, surprises and secrecy are involved like for the trip downtown on the city bus. Remember, these girls have been squired around in an SUV, not public transportation all their lives.

A tour of the SC State House, an impromptu visit to the SC Supreme Court chambers and a shopping trip to Mast General were highlights. Each one had $5 to spend anywhere she wanted. We had a lesson in responsible spending at Mast General.

Their social calendars are more complicated as they get older. But, we carry on the tradition. Dressing up and wearing the proper hat for high tea is a lifetime memory.

It is true what they say, being a grandparent is the only thing in life not overrated.
