Lexington Medical Center’s $400 million expansion project will open March 26.

It will add a 10-floor tower, 545,000 square feet, 192 beds, 8 operating rooms and 20 specially designed nursery rooms for new moms and babies.

Senior Vice President of Operations Roger Sipe gave a facilities construction update at the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce breakfast Jan. 22.

Sipe said the new North Tower is the largest hospital expansion in state history, according to Department of Health and Environmental Control records.

A 950-vehicle parking garage has been completed on the LMC campus at Sunset Boulevard and I-26 in West Columbia.

Sipe said LMC has bought land for:

• A free-standing urgent care building and imaging center at Saluda Pointe off of Ginny Lane near US 378 and I-20 in Lexington.

• A facility in Northeast Richland County in the Killian-Clemson Road area near Longtown Road.

Sipe said LMC’s 393 beds were 90% filled in 2018.

The emergency room received about 89,000 visits and physicians treated 1.3 million patients in 2018.

LMC provided 24,000 surgeries and birthed 3,300 babies.
