A state representative has joined a growing number of snake bite victims. He is recovering from a copperhead bite. Rep. Chris Wooten of Lexington posted on social media that he was walking his dog around 8 pm Sunday when he stepped on a copperhead in his yard. Wooten said he killed the snake with a brick and drove to the ER where doctors gave him anti-venom. On social media Wooten reported [sic]: “Here’s the latest status and the story (since I am bored out of my mind and don’t sit still very well). I slipped on flip flops to take Remi out last night at about 8:00. As I walked across yard I stepped on a copperhead. (Shoot yourself with a .22 rifle in the big toe if you want to know what it felt like.) Grabbed a brick slammed it on the snake (picked it up and bit it’s head off ) and then Drove to the ER. Anti venom was started last night about 2 am. I am currently in ICU at Lexington medical center and apparently have to be here at least a couple of days. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen... (For all my democratic friends... no I didn’t bite off the snakes head! Haha) Thank y’all again.” WIS-TV confirmed that Wooten has been released and is at home recovering. The Chronicle reported last week that the Centers for Disease Control found a higher volume of snake bites this year due to heavy rains and suburban development.
