How to Make Someone Else Laugh

Posted

Laughter is something that can make you happier and healthier.

Even the Bible says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine.”

So why not make a concerted effort to cause other people to laugh.

I have made people laugh before, but it has not always been intentional.

Like the time my wife and I simply sat down in a crowded restaurant and suddenly she looked at me and just started laughing.

She just kept saying, “Go the restroom! Go to the rest room!”

I said, “But I don’t need to go to the restroom!”

Then she said, “Your shirt is inside out!”

It is possible to bring other people laughter without even trying.

I suppose you could wear a shirt inside out on purpose and bring a little laughter to someone else.

But that is risky.

They might not laugh because they don’t want to embarrass you.

If you have to say, “Oh look, my shirt is inside out!” it’s like having to explain the punchline and you will just look like a nut.

The safest way to make someone else laugh is to tell a joke with a good punchline.

Example: Do you know what a wok is? It’s something you fwoh at a wittle wabbit.

But to tell a good joke, you must know your audience.

When I was in junior high school, we got laughs out of jokes that made no sense.

Example: An ambidextrous bear walked into a bank and handed the teller a note. The teller looked at the note and said, “What do you think I am, a typewriter?”

What made this funny was watching the person laugh who didn’t want to look like he didn’t get the joke because the rest of us were laughing.

This is why junior high was so much fun. OK, I had better stop.

Looking back fondly to junior high school means you are definitely over 65!
