Irregular weather on tap in Chapin

Is the Fall season here? If you are new to the Palmetto State, you will discover that from October to December we can experience three seasons in 24 hours! In December, one could wear a heavy winter coat and a week later; pull out those summer shorts and flip-flops. Welcome to South Carolina, where you need to check the weather daily to see which clothes to wear.

Just a reminder that Lexington-Richland School District 5 has implemented a clear bag requirement at all sporting events. Clear tote bags and one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags and small clutches no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” will also be allowed. Metal detectors will also be at varsity events. Students 8th grade or under are required to attend games with a parent or guardian. For extra safety measures, school resource officers travel with teams for road games.

Kids love tractors and trucks like those they can see October 12, 10 am to 1 pm at Saluda Shoals Park. In this free event, kids can get hands-on experience with these cool vehicles and talk to those who drive them.

Kayaking is fun and relaxing. Saluda Shoals also has private, guided river trips for groups of five or more. The 3-hour trip includes brief paddle instruction before launching. For booking information, contact Josh Brewton at 803-213-2056 or at jbrewton@icrc.net .

Road construction and traffic delays are in the future for Irmo and Chapin commuters. SCDOT will widen I-26 from Exit 101 to Exit 85 starting in 2020. It is projected to take 4 years! Lane closures will be done at night to make the daily commute easier for commuters.

Christian Bloom, a 21-year-old man with autism, collects postcards from all over the world. Christian struggles to be verbal but loves to communicate by correspondence. If you have an extra postcard from another nation, send it to Christian at 1300 Dreher Island Rd, Chapin SC 29036.
