It’s all about St. Pat’s Day next week

0ur town is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! Sponsored by Lexington County Blowfish owneras Bill and Vicki Shanahan, the Shamrock Parade will take place at 2 pm March 14 in downtown Lexington. Named for the 3 leaf clover representing the Trinity, the parade and activities celebrates the life of the patron saint of Ireland and Irish heritage.

Joe Pinnei “Mr. Knozit,” will lead the parade and then stop off at the grandstand in front of O’Hara's Public House to serve as emcee of the event. It should be an exciting day with much wearing of the green! You might even find some Irish dishes like corned beef and cabbage or Irish stew being served for the occasion. So come on out in your green attire and join in the fun of the day! Everybody loves a parade!

ANNE BULL REPORTS another Irish event: The Lexington County Public Library held its monthly tea March 8 with an Irish theme. The program featured slides of famous sites and people in Ireland. The images included the Cliffs of Moher, the Trinity College Library, the Linen Hall, and the Giants Causeway. Famous Irishmen featured included C.S. Lewis and Oscar Wilde. The next tea is April 19 at 2:30 pm celebrating our nation’s libraries.

March 13 is the Sing a Song of Broadway concert and more at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, 7:30 pm. Presented by Lexington County Choral Society, Hal McIntosh founder/conductor, it will be a delightful musical event. Special guests will be Southern Bronze Handbell Ensemble.

LEXINGTON HAS BEEN honored with out of town and well-known visitors. Linda Griffith says:

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILLARY Unit 7 and Post 7 hosted a reception for National Auxiliary President Nicole Clapp with 36 folks attending on a very wet day. Several units displayed items including neck and lap pillows, wheel chair bags, and scrapbooks describing what their units are doing for veterans. Ms. Clapp was able to visit each tableeled with her to Greenville to attend Topgolf and the Upstate-Carolina Adaptive Golf facilities. She addressed the State Legislature and then went to Chapin’s Post 193 for dinner with the National Commander and other dignitaries. She was presented a Proclamation welcoming her to Lexington, outlining her accomplishments, and inviting her to “stay awhile.” A lovely gift from the Town of Lexington was presented along with other gifts from several visiting units. and person attending presenting each one with one of her President’s pins. Ms. Clapp addressed the group talking about her theme, “FOR THE VET ERANS. NO SELF.” Past department presidents’ as well as Unit 7’s President Dot Tunstall traveled with her to Greenville to attend Topgolf and the Upstate-Carolina Adaptive Golf facilities. THE FAMOUS BUDWEISER Clydesdales will be in the Midlands next week! March 18 at 2 pm, the horses will come down Lexington’s Main Street and distribute cases of beer to businesses who serve AnheuserBusch products. Other stops include Columbia’s Main Street and the St. Patricks Day Parade in Five Points.
