Jacksons celebrate 50th anniversary

Happy Anniversary to Sam and Beverly Jackson, who celebrates their 50th year! They took a trip to Hendersonville to Mud Creek Baptist Church for a Southern Gospel Singing. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Forts Pond Elementary teacher Mrs. Burnett, who received the Target Field Trip Grant, and to Ms. Helen Siceloff in obtaining a W. P. Rawl School to Garden Mini grant. Ms. Siceloff also has been utilizing resources she received through a grant to participate in the Hour of Code, in which students combine measurement and coding to design Ozobot tracks for their robots. This activity requires problem solving, adding, color sequencing, and perseverance strategies.

Forts Pond Elementary welcomes Sara Rushton back after a lengthy illness. She looks great and is back working with the wonderful Cafeteria staff. Thanks to Stacie Wren, who filled the void for Ms. Sara. Brandon Brantly is a finalist for the Lexington County School District One Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Kara Holladay is Support Staff member of the year.

Pelion Elementary School hosted teachers from Ware Shoals Elementary, who visited classrooms to observe PES teachers implementing Lucy Calkins reading and writing workshop.

All Pro Dads meet January 18 at 7 pm in the cafeteria.

Congratulations to the Panther Leaders. These students exhibit the LIFESKILLS of Friendship, Problem-Solving, Flexibility, and Creativity. They are Nevaeh Townson, Kinleigh Reavis, Gage Holeman, Cadence Whetstone, Mason Langford, Kenzie Lambert, Adaleigh Corbett, Elayna Stafford, Paisley Hinkle, Blake Adkisson, Paisley Montgomery, Kaman Wood, Isabella Langford, Allie McKay, Cecelia Welbaum, Blair Lucas, Aethan Florez Meza, Katie Goodwin, Ava Poole, Mallory Craps, Cameron Fox, Lexi Hansen, Calleigh Smoak, Nathan Holderness, Abby Morales, Dani New, Abigail Oliver, Caitlin Adair, Alondra Garcia, and Jadderlyn Bordonio del Valle.

The Pelion library will host technology training January 23 at 10:30 am for ages 18 and up. Registration is required. Preschool story time is January 23 at 11 am for ages 2 –5 years. Books and Beyond will meet January 22 at 3:30 pm with the topic of Nutrition. Edventure global chef Ashley Hutto will take students on a culinary adventure around the world to explore cuisines and cultures. This event is for grades K-5.

Tween Extreme meets January 24 at 6 pm to delve into KEVA Planks. Participants will try to build the tallest tower using KEVA Plants. STEM programs stimulate children’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. This is for grades 4-7.

Pelion High wrestling team meets at Lexington High January 19 at 7:30 am. Varsity basketball plays Gilbert January 22 at 6 pm. JV basketball plays at Gilbert January 23 at 6 pm.

Pelion Senior Center will be closed January 21 for Martin Luther King day.
