James D. Manning

LEXINGTON - James D. Manning was born October 30, 1934 in Sturgis, KY, and passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021. He was a son of the late Henry and Marietta Manning.

Mr. Manning was a graduate of the University of Louisville and a US Navy veteran of the Korean War era. He was former Vice President and member of the Board of Directors, National Brush Company and former Executive Vice President of National Wood Products. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Glasgow, KY, where he was a finance committee member and a member of the Chancel Choir for 35 years. Mr. Manning was elected to two terms on the Glasgow City Council and a member of numerous other organizations in Glasgow.

In Lexington, SC, he was a member of the Mount Hebron United Methodist Church and served on the finance committee. He was a member of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Lexington Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow (Second Award), Membership Development Chair and Publicity Chair.

Mr. Manning is survived by his wife, Dorothy Conrad Manning; son, Christopher H. Manning (Paula) of Ft. Thomas, KY; daughter, Meg Manning Ballard of Arlington, VA; daughter-in-law, Judy Manning of Cave City, KY; brother, Bob Manning (Bonny) of Louisville, KY; stepsons, Walter F. Turbyfill III (Marila) of West Columbia, Todd C. Turbyfill of Gilbert, Andrew R. Turbyfill (Lisa) of Columbia,; stepdaughter, Jennifer T. Burkholder (Scott) of Lexington, along with three grandchildren, Jacob Manning (Mackenzie) , Mary Frances Eichorst (Ryan), Joshua Manning; step grandchildren, Allison Moss (Jesse), Kyle (Karyn), Christian (Natalie), Lauren and Anna Turbyfill; Eric and Kaylee Burkholder, Karen Robbins (Keith), Stephanie Trent, Neicy Trent (Kevin); and several step great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Frances M. Manning; sons, Stephen H. Manning and Thomas D. Manning; granddaughter, Chelsea M. Manning and son-in-law, Amos Ballard. Funeral services were held April 27, 2021, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with reception following. Interment will be held at a later date in Glasgow, KY.
