Edie-Raine Hardee of Class 3A girls golf champion Gilbert earned medalist honors in the girls 13- 18 division of the Tri-County Chapter of the SC Junior Golf Association at the Country Club of Lexington.

Lily Reed Black and Alexis Hodge of Gilbert tied for 2nd 1 back at 6-over-par.

Adysen Langdale was medalist in the girls 10-12 division.

Hutson Ellerbee was the medalist in the boys 7-9 division, while Matthew Roff claimed medalist honors in the 10-12 divisions. Gray Tuttle was the 13-14 low scorer and Bryson Rockwell won the 15-17.

Larry Bosewell showed me how to play golf on the course. He was the Irmo High School golf coach at the time, but won many amateur events and now is in the Carolinas Hall of Fame.

Over and over he said to me the fastest way to learn how to play is watch great players play as often as you can. Watch them up close and study all the details. Also, watch them practice. Next, go out and apply what you saw them doing to your game.

If you are curious where I’m going with this, the Carolinas Mountain Tour holds 1 day competitions for pros and amateurs so check their website at http://www. mountaingolftour.com/ then go watch.

Get there early and watch them warm up.

Caleb Proveaux from Lexington placed 2nd at Star Fort in Ninety Six to Kelby Burton of Augusta, Ga. Proveaux shot 68 while Burton shot 65. Wil Miles placed 3rd with a score of 69. Miles and Proveaux were teammates at the University of South Carolina.

I happened to be out watching the Carolinas Mountain Tour event this week when a spectator named Joe asked me a simple question that hit me in a way that inspired today’s lesson.

“What is the biggest mistake you see people who want to improve make?,” he asked.

My answer was ‘Waste their time practicing on ideas that don’t help.”

Joe laughed and sited several situation that validated my answer.

“What’s the solution,” he asked.

My reply was to make sure the ideas you invest your time and resources in are worthy.

More next week, so stay tuned.

The Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commision has junior golf camps running in July, so check their website at icrc.net for details. On July 25th, Grow Golf Now will host a “Girls Only Playing Class.” Check www.growgolfnow.com for details.
