It has been a wet start to 2019, with over 18 inches of rain falling in two weeks.  All that rain has delayed the draw-down of Lake Murray, to the targeted elevation of the 350-foot range. SCE&G will begin lowering the lake as conditions allow. The projected to reach its normal level by spring.  

Chapin Mayor, David Knight proclaimed the week of January 20 as Chapin school choice week. Residents in the Chapin area have many educational choices—public schools, online schools, Abner Montessori School’s K-4th-grade program, and the Dutch Fork Homeschool Resource Center.

Do you know your local history?  St. Michael Lutheran Church in Irmo, known as “blue church,” was the first church to have English services in 1813. German was still spoken in the area until the 1830s. Pastor Anderson of St. Michael will be the guest speaker at the Dutch Fork Historical Society at the Chapin Library Jan 28 at 6 pm.  Go and learn more interesting facts about this historically significant church  

 The Lions, tigers, and bears at the Riverbanks Zoo are very excited about the free Fridays until the end of February. Lexington and Richland County residents get free admission to the zoo on Fridays.  

Sharing God’s love in Irmo and The We Care Center’s pantry in Chapin need food for the less unfortunate. Canned goods, laundry, and dish detergent, and personal hygiene products are needed. For drop off information or to volunteer, call We Care at 803-345-3244 and Sharing God’s love at 803-732-3188.
