Spring will soon be here and many of us will want to plant a garden. A vegetable garden takes planning, upkeep, and a bit of knowledge on what vegetables to plant and when. If you would like to know more about vegetable gardening, you might be interested in taking a class.

Here’s the good news. The Lexington County Master Gardeners will conduct a class on “Warm Season Vegetables” at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library March 17 at 10:45 am. You will learn which vegetables are classified as warm-season and how to plant and care for them. How to plant heirloom vegetables, container vegetable garden tricks, the best time to plant and more will also be covered. For information and registration call the library at 785-5387.

BACK TO THE 80’s Color Run registration deadline is March 19. The Color Run race day is April 18 at 9 am. Sponsored by the Gilbert Middle School PTSA, this annual race is a fundraiser. For information email: gms80srun@gmail.com

THE UNITED METHODIST Men of Pond Branch UMC invites you to the “Spring Pork/Chicken Barbecue. Plates or whole chickens or one pound of pork will be available. Each plate will consist of pork or chicken, rice with gravy or hash, slaw, pickles, bread and sweet tea. Plates are $10 and whole racks of ribs are $20 dollars, with half rack of ribs at $10. PBUMC is located in Gilbert just off of 1-20. For information, call 803-657-5481.

TEACHER APPRECIATION NIGHT for Gilbert Middle School and Batesburg-Leesville teachers is coming soon. This special treat is sponsored by the Woodman Life Chapter 6230. Teachers will be given a spaghetti dinner and dessert. Everyone attending will receive a goody bag and their names entered for several door prize drawings. This special night is a thank you to the teachers for their dedication and work educationing students.

A BIG THANK you goes to the Gilbert High School Ladies Soccer Team. It donated plush toys to the Victims Assistance Program at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GILBERT Pack 60 Scout Ethan Cook, who earned his Eagle Scout award last Sunday in a special ceremony at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church.
