The 1st half of the Coastal Plain League season has started in slow fashion for the Lexington County Blowfish.
Making the 2-4 record entering this past Tuesday even more foreboding is the play of West Division leader Savannah.
The Bananas are off to a 7-0 start. This includes 3 wins over the Blowfish, 2 at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Since arriving in the CPL, the Bananas own a 20-8 record in Lexington.
Offense has been an early concern for Lexington County. Through Monday, the Blowfish were batting .192 with the team having struck out 75 times in 7 games.
Lexington County also has the distinction of having 4 players strike out 4 times in a game for the dubious “Golden Sombrero”.
Among the positives are the play of pitcher Dalton Mims. A graduate of Airport High School currently enrolled at Winthrop University, Mims has provided timely relief to keep the team close with a team-high 10 strikeouts and 1.45 earned run average.
At the plate, Braden Raidenberg leads the team with 4 RBI, followed by Tyler Olenchuk of Clemson University and a graduate of Dutch Fork and Jeff Cyr with 3 each.
With a 6-game homestand coming up, the Blowfish will look to make up ground in the 1st half standings. Tickets are available by calling (803) 254-FISH or visit www.goblowfishbaseball.com .
