Lexington County runners claim All-State honors

The SC High School League held the Cross-Country Championships Saturday at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.

A total of 6 Chronicle Country athletes earned All-State honors, led by Chapin’s Jaden Kingsley who finished in third place overall in Class 5A.  Zander Jeffcoat and William Johnson placed 9th and 11th, respectively, for Lexington who placed 6th overall in Class 5A as a team with Dutch Fork finishing 14th.

This marked the first time since 2012 that Lexington had 2 All-State long-distance runners. In Class 5A girls, River Bluff’s Madelyn Gomez finished 5th and Chapin’s Abigail White was 10th. River Bluff was 12th as a team while places 14-17 were taken by Dutch Fork, Lexington, Irmo and Chapin.

In Class 3A, Karlyn Burgdorf finished for Pelion, who placed 8th in the girls and 16th in the boys’ division. Gilbert was 9th and 12th, respectively, in Class 3A and Batesburg-Leesville was 11th in the girls and 17th in the boys, one ahead of Gray Collegiate.
