A Lexington father and son allegedly shot a man to death earlier this week.

Ryan Jordan Lindler Jr., 26, is accused of shooting and killing Kevin Lester Newhouse, 36 of Lexington, Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 6, at the behest of his father, Ryan Jordan Lindler Sr., 52. Both men have been arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, per the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

“This all started with the Lindlers confronting Newhouse about a trespassing incident they said happened just before at another address,” Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. “Before the three men fought, the Lindlers prevented Newhouse from going back into his house.”

“Over the course of their investigation, which included interviews with both Lindlers and witnesses, detectives determined the elder Lindler told his son to shoot the victim,” Koon is quoted. “The shooting happened after the elder Lindler had taken a machete away from the victim, who was unarmed when he was shot and lived near the Lindlers on Seleta Circle.”

Provided arrest warrants state that Lindler Jr. used a handgun in the shooting and that he and his father tracked Newhouse to his residence following the alleged trespassing incident.

“[Lindler Jr.] explained that he witness [sic] Kevin on his property with their cameras and came to this address with his father ... to confront [Newhouse],” a provided incident report states. “[Lindler Jr.] explained they started talking to Kevin but he ‘didn't say much,’ but explained that Kevin grabbed a machete and started to swing at them. [Lindler Jr.] explained that his father was hit and so was he. [Lindler Jr.] then explained that he took out his gun and shot [Newhouse]. [Lindler Jr.] stated that people started to come out of the woods so they left. [Lindler Jr.] explained that he also called 911 about this incident. [Lindler Jr.] did explain that the gun and machete were in his truck. This information was passed on to detectives. [Lindler Jr.] had a 6 round Glock magazine in his pocket. The magazine had 5 Venom 9P VNM rounds and 1 Luger 9mm round.”

Both Lindlers were arrested Wednesday evening, the release states, noting that they were taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, where they remain, having been denied bond Thursday.
