Lexington man arrested on drug, weapons charges

Posted

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department says it seized approximately 850 ecstasy pills, 30 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of marijuana and two handguns from a man arrested on drug and weapons charges.

Derrick Bright, 43, is charged with  trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, trafficking ecstasy and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

“Deputies were at a gas station on Highway 321 near Gardners Terrace Road last week where they made contact with Bright in the parking lot,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release about the March 24 arrest. “Bright was taken into custody after deputies searched his car with probable cause.”

Neither the warrants nor the release specify what led deputies to search Bright’s car.

Arrest warrants state that during the March 24 arrest Bright admitted knowledge of the narcotics and firearms, seized from the vehicle, after being read his Miranda rights. He has two prior convictions for trafficking ecstasy and cocaine from January of last year.

Bright was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center following his arrest.
