Lexington police are collecting for the Toys for Tots "Fill the MRAP" Campaign for the holidays across the town.
Police Chief Terrence Green said the annual Toys for Tots “Fill the MRAP” campaign began Monday and will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 9 with donation events scheduled at the Icehouse Amphitheater, Learning Express, Lexington Pavilion, and Walmart.
The Marines Toys for Tots Foundation is anticipating additional requests from families this Christmas due to those affected by layoffs and loss of employment due to covid-19.
The objective for this year’s Toys for Tots campaign will be to fill the Lexington Police Department Emergency Services Team (EST) MRAP vehicle with toy donations. Unless needed elsewhere, the EST MRAP vehicle will be at each planned event.
The Toys for Tots “Fill the MRAP” schedule includes events on the following days and times:
Monday, November 30        Lexington Pavilion        11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday, December 1        Learning Express        2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, December 2    Learning Express        2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, December 3        Walmart            2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Friday, December 4        Snowball Fest            4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Monday, December 7        Lexington Pavilion        2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, December 8        Walmart            2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, December 9    Target                2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
During the Toys for Tots events at Learning Express, those who are interested in purchasing a toy to donate will be given a 25% discount on that purchase and those who make a monetary donation will receive a “Comeback Coupon” for 25% off an item to be used in January. Learning Express will be matching monetary donations and will make a toy donation to Toys for Tots as well.
All cash and check donations made during “Fill the MRAP” events will be used for shopping sprees with Chief Green to purchase additional toys for the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation.
For families in need, please know that Dec. 1 is the last day to submit a request for toys through the South Carolina Marines Toys for Tots Foundation https://columbia-sc.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.aspx?nPageID=100&nPreviewInd=200&nRedirectInd=3 .
