Lexington Woman‘s Club honored

The Lexington Woman’s Club has been honored for its support for local law enforcement.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon and Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green met with the Lexington Woman’s Club Wednesday, May 18. to thank them.

The club provided blue line banners hung throughout the Town of Lexington in honor of Police Week.

On May 12, the annual Lexington County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony was held at the Marc Westbrook Judicial Center in Lexington.

This solemn and moving public event is held during the second week of May during Law Enforcement Week to recognize the fallen law enforcement officers who gave their lives to protect our freedom and safety. The names of the 17 Lexington County Law Enforcement officers were read in remembrance and recognition of their ultimate sacrifice in service to our county.

“Thin Blue Line” banners were hung on poles that surround the Courthouse grounds and for several blocks along Main Street. These banners were donated by several local organizations in honor of our local law enforcement. Those organizations include the Lexington Woman’s Club, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation, the Woman’s Club of Cayce and the Saxe Gotha Woman’s Club.

These banners will remain flying until the end of May.

Several state and local officials attended including South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Chief Terrence Green and Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougal.

Due to heavy rain during the ceremony, the Lexington Woman’s Club met again with Sheriff Koon and Chief Green to take photos at the site of the Memorial Wednesday, May 18, in front of banners on the poles near the Memorial.

Chief Green presented, on behalf of Mayor MacDougal, the official framed proclamation created for the May 12 ceremony to Ann Clark, Co-President of the Lexington Woman’s Club.
