Lexington’s Scarecrow Stroll returns

Posted

The Town of Lexington and the Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center are bringing back the Scarecrow Stroll for the third year in a row.

From Oct. 14-31, fall-themed scarecrows will be on Lexington’s Main Street alongside 35 downtown merchants and businesses.

In the past, businesses have dressed their scarecrows as Indiana Jones, Barbie Lawyer, Taylor Swift and more.

“Businesses were eager to participate in this year’s event,” Nina Glission, the Chamber’s Visitors Center Coordinator, said in a press release. “The light poles were quickly reserved after we put out a call for participants. It’s exciting to see the community embracing fall fun.”

Vote for your favorite

Businesses are competing for the “People’s Choice” award where the public picks their favorite scarecrow. To vote, go to the Town of Lexington’s Facebook page and like your favorite. Voting takes place between Oct. 15-30.

Braggin’ rights

Besides voting, a panel of judges will pick the best overall scarecrow. Old Mill Brewpub won this award last year for their pumpkin-headed brewmaster.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the Scarecrow Stroll and showcase our creative side to the community,” John and Kelly Clinger, owners of the Old Mill Brewpub said in the press release. “Designing this scarecrow was so much fun! We wanted to create something that would make people laugh and smile. The community really looks forward to this annual display, and we’re honored to be a part of it. Plus, it was so fun to hear the comments from our customers. Winning the contest last year was a huge surprise and a testament to the community’s enthusiasm for Lexington.”

Plan an outing

The Virginia Hylton Park and the new 1.15-mile long Old Mill Pond Trail have been added to the town.

The Virginia Hylton Park includes a walking trail, special needs playground, picnic shelters and a twelve-mile creek overlooking a waterfall.

The Old Mill Pond Trail has included changes such as bridges, outlooks and seating areas around the pond. Here you can enjoy the view which is accessible to all visitors.

“I’d encourage everyone to make it an outing to experience our unique atmosphere, recreational areas, and to enjoy our free town concerts at the Icehouse Amphitheater, in addition to shopping and dining,” Angelle LaBorde, Chamber CEO, said.

The announcement of the awards will take place on Nov. 12 at the Chamber’s Business Over Breakfast program.
