O’Hara’s Bakery Café of Lexington to reopen Oct. 14

O’Hara’s Bakery Café of Lexington announced its reopening about two weeks after the popular Lexington coffee and breakfast joint announced a temporary but immediate closure.

According to a Facebook post from café, the business will reopen on Monday, Oct. 14, for breakfast and lunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day of the week.

“Thanks to all for your patience as we are working through the steps of returning to dine-in (table) service,” a post from the business read. “[G]oing back to our roots as a full-service coffee shop and café serving specialty coffees, pastries, and an elevated breakfast and lunch! We are optimistic that Chef Pete and his world-class NY-Style bagels will continue to be an important part of what we do here.

“We are cheering for him in his efforts to get his ‘The Bagel Guys’ wholesale production business off the ground. We hope that you will make plans to be a part of supporting that effort. We are very fortunate to say that you will recognize much of the staff as those who you've come to know and love during our first 5 years here at the bakery.”

The post goes on to mention that the full menu may not be ready to go by reopening day and desserts and dessert bar hours will not be offered at this time, but may return in the future.

“We appreciate every one of your sweet comments and always patient and unwavering support!! We have missed you and can't wait to see you soon,” the post read.

Located at 121 E. Main St. in Lexington, the frequently-packed downtown bakery café announced an immediate but temporary closure on Sept. 22. The announcement was made via their Facebook page with a hopeful emphasis on the closure being temporary, according to earlier reporting from the Chronicle.

In the announcement, O’Hara’s owner Matt O’Hara wrote, “We are not giving up on the space or the prospect of finding a model that might work here, but we are going to cease operations under the current model. My attempt to transition the business from a table-service bakery and café to a counter-service bagel shop has just not produced the required results. We are evaluating all options that are available to us with hopes of coming through this with a viable hospitality business.”

O’Hara goes on to write, “I still believe very strongly in the product… I love the bagels and I am hoping to work with [chef] Pete to see him land on his feet and continue to provide this wonderful thing to the people of Lexington and beyond. We will keep you posted here when any further decisions are made. Thanks to all who have been a part of this place over these past five years.”
