Marionettes take over library

The Columbia Marionette Theatre will present “Make Me a Star” June 22 at 10:30 am at the Pelion Branch Library. Jimmy wants to be a star but doesn’t think he has the talent to make it. He meets a crazy cast of characters, all reaching for their own stars. With the help of his guitar-pickin’ grampa, Jimmy discovers he does have talent. This event is for grades K-5.

The library will host Yarn Art June 23 at 10 am. This event includes crochet, macramé, and knitting for beginner and advanced crafters ages 13 and up.

North of 50 meets June 26 at 11:15 a.m. for ages 50 and up. Teen Scene presents Music Trivia on June 28 at 6 p.m. From classic oldies to new age pop, this trivia challenge will put your knowledge to the ultimate test. Prove you’re a maestro when it comes to musical know-how. For grades 6-12.

Pelion Town Council will increase the town’s millage rate from 18.0 to 18.3.

More local scholarship recipients include Tessa Arquette, Heritage Scholarship; Christopher Bergeron, Clemson University Academic Scholarship; Makayla Bolton, Cregger Company Curt Floyd Scholarship; Hannah Dagger-hart, Converse Endowed Academic Scholarship, Petrie School of Music Scholarship, Angie Kennedy Educational Scholarship, Josh Turner Scholarship, and Lexington County Education Association Retired Scholarship. Anuson Poolsawat was the recipient of the Wingate University Trustee scholarship; Morgan Richardson received the Jerry D and Suzette W. Craft Scholarship; Lillian Shumpert received the Wingate University Academic Merit Scholarship; Chandler Stanley received the Greater Columbia Education Advancement Foundation Scholarship; and Makaela Ward received the Emmanuel College Talent Scholarship. Congratulations to all those who were awarded scholarships. A total of 32 students received a total of 92 scholarships!

Pelion Senior Center will go vegetable shopping with vouchers June 22. Bingo is on June 26 and there will be daily exercise.
