The Cayce-West Columbia Dixie Youth Baseball League held opening ceremonies for the 2020 season Saturday at Howard Park on Cougar Drive in West Columbia.

“It’s a beautiful day, with lots of sunshine,” said West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles, who threw out the first pitch to kick off the days festivities.

“It’s a great day for baseball, especially after all the rain we’ve had lately. I’m honored to be here with all these kids. This is a wonderful event for the community.”

Tina Bullis, of the C-WC Dixie Youth Board, said she is very appreciative of the city’s support.

Also on hand was West Columbia Councilman Mickey Pringle. He is on the C-WC Dixie Youth Baseball Board. His grandson Kameron Pringle is on one of the baseball teams.

“Athletics are very important,” said Pringle. “It requires hard work, discipline and teamwork. Athletics will teach you about life.”

As a part of the City of West Columbia’s partnership with Cayce-West Columbia Dixie Youth Baseball, WCPD Officers Ronald Fair and Eugene Hammil handed out free DNA ID Kits for children to more quickly track a missing child.
