Most affordable living in county

Lexington County may now be an even more appealing place to live.

3 areas in our county were rated as some of the most affordable places in South Carolina.

Topping the list were:

• Irmo

• Red Bank

• Batesburg-Leesville

Online financial advisement website Smartasset looked at closing costs, taxes, insurance, mortgage payments and income to determine housing affordability.

The median income for Irmo was $59,470 with an average annual mortgage payment of $5,836, according to the study.

In Red Bank, median income was $50,878 with a yearly mortgage of $5,489.

The average income and mortgage payments in Batesburg-Leesville were much lower at $38,542 and $4,084.

Among the least affordable places to live in SC were Malboro, Williamsburg, Barnwell, and Laurens.
