Nephron plans $215M expansion

Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation plans to expand operations in Lexington County.

The West Columbia-based company, Nephron develops and produces generic inhalation solutions and suspension products, including those used to treat severe respiratory distress symptoms associated with covid-19.

Nephron’s expansion will add new offices, a new warehouse and production space at its campus in Saxe-Gotha Industrial Park at 4500 12th Street.

The company’s $215.8 million investment will create 380 new jobs.

No booze at bars after 11 pm

Bars in South Carolina must now stop serving alcohol at 11 pm.

Gov. Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2020-45, announcing that effective July 11, the sale of beer, wine, and liquor for on-premises consumption is prohibited after 11 pm each night until further notice.

The governor’s order applies to any holder of the following licenses:

• On-Premises Beer and Wine Permits and 7-Day On-Premises Beer and Wine Permits

• Instate Winery Permit, Domestic Winery Permit, and 7-Day Winery Permit • Brewpub Beer Permit and Brewery Per

• Brewpub Beer Permit and Brewery Permit

• Business Liquor by the Drink License and Non-Profit Private Club Liquor by the Drink License

• Special Event Permit and Special Non-Profit Event Permit

The order does not apply to beer, wine, or liquor sold at convenience or grocery stores, wine and liquor stores, or retail businesses for off-premises consumption.

Cayce to get $65 million development

A 36-acre, $65 million mixed-use development is planned for Cayce.

The project includes apartments, restaurants, retail, a hotel, office space and an entertainment area.

Atlanta-based real estate investment company The Simpson Organization Inc. bought 36 acres of Dominion Energy’s 260-acre Otarre Pointe.

The land is at I-77 and 12th Street Extension in Lexington County. Ground is expected to be broken in late 2021.

Some of the planned amenities include plaza and fountain at the entry and a multi-family residential and lifestyle storage component.

Charlotte-based Paris Projects will handle construction management.

754 file unemployment claims in Lexington County

Unemployment claims are falling as Lexington County returns to work.

754 Lexington County residents filed claims the week ending July 4.

Richland County had the 2nd-highest number of claims – 1,467 – behind Greenville County at 1,529.

In the state, more than 16,000 people filed claims.

That brought the total SC claims in the last 16 weeks to 651,750.

That’s not quite 13% of the state’s 5.2 million residents.

Federal unemployment benefits expire July 25.

The 16,062 claims represented a decrease of 897 from the previous week.

The SC Department of Employment and Workforce reported it has paid more than $2.9 billion in state and federal benefits.

Look who’s on local radio

Long-time radio personality Tony Clyburn is back on the air in Lexington County.

Clyburn of Lexington will be on 93.1 The Lake 3 to 6 each afternoon.

He will be reunited with Brent Johnson who worked with him for about 23 years.

His “Hometown Heroes” segment will feature interviews with local police, EMS and firefighters.

Clyburn is a member of the Leeza’s Care Connection activity board and assists Cancer of Many Colors.

96,000 surgical masks donated

Congressman Joe Wilson and state officials accepted a donation of 96,000 surgical masks today.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta donated the masks to protect South Carolina frontline medical personnel from covid-19.

With the Congressman were SC Secretary of State Mark Hammond, SC Emergency Management Director Kim Stenson and TECO Atlanta Acting Director General Daniel Hung at SCEMD Headquarters on Fish Hatchery Road in Pine Ridge.

FFA vice president named

Lee Padgett is the new State Future Farmers of America vice president.

Padgett is a member and past president of the Pelion High School FFA Chapter.

Padgett was named the 2020 State FFA Star in Agricultural Placement and awarded the prestigious State FFA Degree. He was named “Mr. South Carolina FFA” and awarded a $500 scholarship by the historic Pendleton Farmers Society. He has previously served as a member of the State FFA Land Judging Team and the State Wildlife Management Team and represented the Pelion FFA Chapter in the national finals.

The son of Trevor and Penny Padgett, Lee is employed by Padgett Farms of Leesville.

He will enter Clemson University this fall to major in Agricultural Mechanization and Business.

Nikcole Dickson has joined the ART of Real Estate company’s Columbia office.

Nikcole is a licensed full time real estate professional having most recently been associated with a brokerage in Charleston.
