Motorcycle crash fatality

A Batesburg man died Sunday in a motorcycle accident on Ansel Caughman Road in Leesville.

Brandon Shawn Matthews, 42, of Batesburg was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Matthews was not wearing a helmet when his motorcycle left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Fatal West Columbia stabbing

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred in the 800 block of Center Drive on June 7.

Steven Allen Stelloh, 38, of West Columbia was pronounced dead at an area hospital due to a stab wound to the upper body.

Swansea man dies in collision

A Swansea man died Sunday morning in a motor vehicle collision near Blackville Road on Highway 6.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Juan Carlos Chavero, 38, of Swansea was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

Chavero was traveling along SC Hwy 6 when an oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and the 2 collided. Mr. Chavero was not wearing a seat belt when the incident occurred.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was also not wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Columbia rioter charged

A former Richland County medic has been charged with inciting a riot in Columbia.

Kevin Ackley, 22, of Lexington is accused of throwing a water bottle at police.

The incident, officers say, helped escalate the violence at the Saturday, May 30, protest in downtown Columbia.

Ackley is charged with inciting a riot and aggravated breach of peace.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said the public helped identify him as an instigator of the violence.

At the time, Ackley was working for Richland County Emergency Services.

He was fired following his arrest Friday, according to WLTX-TV.

Lexington woman charged in dad’s stabbing

Lexington County investigators have arrested a Lexington woman accused of stabbing her father Monday night.

Geri Lin Oswald, 22, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

Reports show Geri Oswald stabbed him multiple times in the upper body with a large kitchen knife at their home in the 200 block of Bailey Island Circle.

Mr. Oswald is in a hospital receiving treatment for his wounds, according to Sheriff Jay Koon. His medical team told investigators he was critically wounded.

Ms. Oswald was arrested at the home after speaking with deputies. She’s being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a magistrate judge denied her bond.

Fatal W. Cola stabbing

West Columbia Police Department have arrested a man for murder.

Randy Eugene Self is charged in the June 7 fatal stabbing at 802 Central Drive in West Columbia.

He was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center where he is awaiting bond. The department will provide additional details in this case at a later time.

Leesville girl dies in wreck

A 12-year-old girl died last week in a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in Pelion.

Stacy Elizabeth Bagwell of Leesville was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

According to Fisher, the SUV in which Bagwell was a passenger veered off the roadway and overturned in the 900 block of Bub Shumpert Road June 2.

Bagwell was not wearing a seat belt when the incident occurred. The driver and other passenger of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
