LEXINGTON – Patty Louise Cox Wingard, 90-years-old, a resident of Lexington, SC, for 76 years, passed into the arms of Our Heavenly Father on April 15, 2021 at her home in Lexington, SC. She is remembered for her unwavering trust in Jesus and love of family and friends.

Born September 22, 1930 in Hickory, NC to Carl and Jessie Sherrill Cox they moved frequently with Carl’s textile job, which took them to several mills in the tri-state area. Patty attended 10 schools in NC, SC, and GA, making friends along the way. In high school, she met Henry Christopher Wingard at the popular soda shop, Harmon’s Drug Store. She attended Columbia College before marrying Chris in 1950. The two went on to enjoy a close and much loved family. Patty was a devoted member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church for almost 70 years. She valued her many wonderful friends and shared weekly breakfasts and a good game of cards with them in her later years. The “Patty Wagon” delivered Meals-on-Wheels and transported Lexington residents to doctor and hair appointments, and church services for many years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Georgia Berger (Joseph), Thomas Wingard (Wendy), and Clifford Wingard (Mary). She was the proud Granny to 8 grandchildren, their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved cousins and friends.

The family wishes to thank Grace Caregivers of Lexington and Tri-County Home Health and Hospice for their dedicated loving care over the last months.

A celebration of Patty’s life was held on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1430 N. Lake Dr., Lexington, SC 29072 or Mission Lexington, 216 Harmon St., Lexington, SC 29072.
