The Pelion Woman’s Club celebrates its 24th year this month. They meet the third Monday of each month. All ladies are invited to join.

Keep the date of April 13 open for the Community Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Pelion Woman’s Club. More information will follow.

Forts Pond Elementary will hold its Mallard Market March 30.

Former FPES student Rilee Sturkie was in a talent competition this past weekend and placed first in 3D art with a recycled bottle cap mural that was inspired by the one that is at FPES. Congratulations.

FPES Service Seekers will participate in Wands for Wildlife. Students will collect used mascara wands to recycle and send to “Appalachian Wild.” These used wands will be sent to a wildlife reserve to help clean small animals.

Preschool story time for ages 2-5 years will be held March 3 at 11 am at the Pelion Library. Technology Training is also held that day at 10:30 am. Registration is required.

The Pelion library will hold its annual Poetry Contest to celebrate National Poetry Month. The contest is for all school students and adults. The deadline for entries is April 15. Poems will be judgedApril 18 with the winners announced April 25. Entry forms are available from the Pelion Branch library, all Pelion school media centers and at www.lex.lib.sc.us . Only one entry per applicant. Categories are: Adults 18 and over; High School students grades 9-12; Middle School students grades 6-8, and Elementary School students grades 1-5. The school categories includes those students who are homeschooled.

Poems must be the contestant’s original work. Attach a completed entry form to your poetry. Do not put your name on the poem, only on the entry form. Submit 4 copies of your poem on letter paper and deliver to the library or email ssprenne@lex. lib.sc.us .

Poems may be of any subject matter, type, or style with no lewd or inappropriate language or content. The length must not exceed one page. Prizes will be awarded in each category for first and second place winners. Winners will be announced April 25 at 6 pm. Prizes will be awarded at this time. The contest is sponsored by Friends of the Pelion Branch Library.
