On July 26, Batesburg-Leesville Police kicked off National Night Out festivities around Lexington County that would continue into early August. Several local law enforcement agencies took part in the nationwide push to connect communities with the officers, which is celebrating 40 years in 2023.

The event in Leesville College Park included various demos from first responders, including firefighters who demonstrated putting out a blaze, a Highway Patrol trooper showcasing the importance of wearing a seatbelt, and Rone, a state Law Enforcement Division K9 that was at the event last year as a puppy and returned a more mature member of the agency.

Hot dogs were provided, and community organizations such as the Lexington County Public Library were on site with activities and prizes. School supplies, coloring books, colored pencils and crayons were given away.
