The bad news is that 2,560 more South Carolinians have tested positive for covid-19.

That was out of 11,569 test results reported Friday.

You will see and hear these numbers on TV and in other newspapers.

What they rarely tell you is the good news.

Only 1 middle aged Lexington County person's death was reported Friday.

And an elderly Richland County person's death was also reported Friday.

Both deaths occurred last Tuesday.

In the state 30 total deaths were reported Friday.

Over the last 7 days, an average of less than 22 deaths were reported daily.

With increased testing, more new cases are being discovered.

But the statewide death rate remains low.

Faster detection snd improved treatment are resulting in far fewer deaths.

Lexington County had 152 new cases reported Friday.

DHEC did not say how many test results were received in the county.

Greenville continues to lead the state with 411 new cases reported Friday.

Spartanburg was 2nd with 256 and Richland County 3rd with 182.
