The Scouting program at Red Bank United Methodist Church is growing, and troops are now beginning the new school year. Troop 9518 is a new all-girl troop with Scouts BSA that will meet Thursdays at 6 pm. They are recruiting girls from age 11 to 17, who will get to participate in hiking, camping, and leadership skills. Contact Lori Norris at loritnorris@gmail.com for information on this program.

Cub Scout Pack 518 is recruiting boys age 6 through 11, 1st through 5th grades. Meetings are on Tuesday nights at Red Bank UMC at 6:30. For more information, contact the church office at 359-4031.

St. James Lutheran will hold its monthly food pantry, open to the public, September 17 from 10 to 11 am. Contact the church for more information at 359-2122.

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating, there are other sports going on at the high school level right now besides football. White Knoll High School teams in action this week include the co-ed varsity swimming team in a conference game vs Dreher and Spring Valley at Woodlands Country Club in Columbia; Co-ed varsity cross country has a Saturday meet in Spartanburg; girls varsity golf plays Sept. 16 vs Dutch Fork at Mid-Carolina Country Club; girls varsity tennis plays at Lexington Tuesday at 5 pm; and girls JV and varsity volleyball plays at Lexington Sept. 17. Get out and support our Timberwolves teams wherever they are playing.

Happy birthday this week to Lauren Barton, Harold Roland, Tommy Arant, Billie Chewning, Mary Hines, Lisa Long, Cindi Crolley, Carolyn Lorick, Marlene Tanner, Aubree McKenzie, Mary Harbour, Jonah Bedebaugh, Abby Wallace, William Bond, Barbara Killian, Tom Jansen, Jase Joyner, and Tom Boozer.
