Ronald (Ron) Powell, 79, of Hollister Missouri went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 12, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was the father of J. Mark Powell whose Holy Cow! History column appears in The Lexington Chronicle.
Mr. Powell loved his God, his family, his country and his community. He was faithful to all four. He worked hard his entire life, raised three children and passed on to them the values of faith and family, love and laughter.
He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 5, 1939, to the late Jack and Rose (Karrle) Powell and grew up there. He married Shirley Richardson, the love of his life, on June 26, 1959. He was employed by Amour Meats for many years and worked in the auto sales industry in the latter part of his career. After retiring to Hollister in 2006, he worked for the Showboat Branson Belle for 11 years.
Mr. Powell was predeceased by his wife, who passed away in 2009 shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his son J. Mark Powell of the home; daughter Julie Christians of Hollister; daughter Stacia Fried-berg of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
