S. Congaree traffic stop leads to drug arrests

Two women were arrested on narcotics-related charges during a traffic stop in South Congaree, officials say.

According to the South Congaree Police Department, Heather Smith and Ashley Hagins were arrested during a traffic stop on Saturday.

Officials say both women were charged with several narcotics-related charges, including trafficking meth after officers say they found 55 grams of meth ice inside the vehicle.

According to officers, Hagins was wanted for probation warrants.

Lexington police look for flag thief

Lexington police are asking for the public’s assistance in helping identify a man who they believe has stolen multiple American flags.

According to Chief Terrence Green, officers began responding to numerous thefts that occurred in the Wellesley neighborhood on Ginny Lane on the morning of July 12.

It was reported to officers that 8 American flags, along with a decorative yard flag, had been stolen with the first incident happening on June 25. Seven additional incidents occurred during the early morning hours of July 11 and July 12, officials say.

The subject involved in these incidents is believed to be a male, unknown race, with short dark hair and a full beard. He was seen wearing a hooded sweat shirt, shorts, and slide sandals with socks. The subject may have been driving a dark in color Honda CRV.

Cayce man dies in motorcycle collision

A Cayce man died in an accident involving a motorcycle and a truck outside of Columbia on Saturday.

The collision occurred around 2:15 pm in the Garners Ferry (U.S. 378) area, near Lower Richland Boulevard, said Master Trooper Brian Lee of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lee said a 2016 Chevrolet truck was heading west on Garners Ferry when it attempted to make a left turn onto Lower Richland Boulevard. The truck and a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle collided.

The driver of the motorcycle was Anthony H. Burks, 42, of Cayce. He died of injuries sustained in the crash.
