Have SC health officials failed the state with their speed of vaccinations?
A national study indicate this may be true.
The researchers found SC the next to last safe state in the US, with Ohio the least safe.
According to Feb. 18 SC Department of Health and Environmental Control data:
• SC had received 970,750 total doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine.
• Only 687,669 doses had been injected.
That’s in a small state with more than 5 million people.
The good news is that leaves 303,081 doses available to those unvaccinated.
The #1 question is, with doses arriving daily, why haven’t our health officials arranged more injections?
According to a WalletHub national study, only 5% of the US population has been fully vaccinated against covid-19 as of Feb. 17.
Vaccination is an essential component to fully reopen the economy, the WalletHub researchers said.
To find the safest and unsafest states during the pandemic, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The data includes the rates of covid transmission, positive testing, eligible people vaccinated, hospitalizations and death.
They found the:
• Safest states so far are
1. Alaska
2. Hawaii
3. Maine
4. North Dakota
5. Wyoming
6. Wisconsin
7. Oregon
8. Washington
9. Montana
10. Minnesota
• The least safe are:
42. Tennessee
43. Delaware
44. New Jersey
45. Texas
46. Alabama
47. Georgia
48. Rhode Island
49. New York
50. South Carolina
51. Ohio
