Let’s go ahead and kick off this story with its most important scoop: You can get all you can eat blue crabs this Saturday at Saluda Shoals Park on Bush River Road.
That’s because the Southeast Crab Feast is coming to town.
The Southeast Crab Feast is essentially a traveling festival of culinary crustacean creations, offering up blue crabs by the dozen to seafood lovers around the Southeast. This year’s edition of the festival isn’t just about stuffing your face with delicious blue crab, though. This family-friendly event has live music and fun activities as well.
The Southeast Crab Feast at Saluda Shoals Park this Saturday is divided into two separate sessions: One at 1 p.m. and another at 4 p.m. Your admission cost (tickets start at $17.50 and range up to $50) includes the aforementioned all you can eat blue crabs plus a side of fish and chips and full access to live music and family fun.
And in case you’re on the fence about coming out this Saturday, perhaps it would help to know that your money is helping a worthy cause.
Southeast Crab Feast Inc. (a subsidiary of Southeast Events LLC) is a non-profit organization that supports cancer research and treatment organizations such as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Cancer Society and other non-profits.
Crab Feast events started in 2010 as a gathering of family, friends and associates who enjoyed the centuries old Low Country coastal tradition of eating ocean fresh seafood.
Since that humble, down-home beginning, the Southeast Crab Feast has grown into a multi-city event, because demand was so high. And it’s not surprising; It’s hard to resist the lure of perfectly seasoned fresh blue crabs and fish offered in a family friendly environment.
Southeast Events currently hosts Crab Feast events in 20 plus cities, including Charlotte, Roanoke, Raleigh, Columbia, Savannah, Knoxville and Atlanta. They also support local watermen on the coastline of N.C., S.C., Ga. and Fla. who harvest and deliver the fresh blue crabs and other seafood from the Atlantic Ocean for these events. In the last four years, the Southeast Crab Feast has landed on the Restaurant Guru website’s “Recommended” list three times.
If you’re convinced that this is the event for you, here are a couple of notes before you head over to Saluda Shoals Park. Southeast Crab Feast seafood is seasoned, but you are welcome to bring your own personal condiments such as dipping sauces and special seasoning. And don’t forget your crab mallet! Guests are not allowed to bring large coolers, beverages or large bags into the event, but soda and bottled water will be on sale.
Finally, and most importantly, did we mention all you can eat blue crabs?
