Lexington, River Bluff stars win Athlete of the Week after wild weather cancels events

Posted

Wild weather struck the Carolinas and canceled most events late last week. However, there was enough action early to crown another pair of Athletes of the Week.

This week’s winner came from Lexington and River Bluff and helped their teams get important wins with big performances.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchonicle.com

Matthew McAuley

Lexington football running back Matthew McAuley helped the Wildcats improve to 4-1 and earn their second shutout of the season.

McAuley is a two-way player for the Wildcats and made contributions on both sides of the ball in the team’s 29-0 shutout win over Laurens. He scored three touchdowns in the game to give Lexington a big boost on the scoreboard.

The Wildcats have had a solid start to the season and will look for McAuley to continue helping on both sides of the ball as they begin region play this week at home against undefeated Irmo.

Alexis Jodie

Alexis Jodie was voted Athlete of the Week after helping the River Bluff volleyball team beat Chapin early last week.

The Gators improved to 3-0 in region play after beating the Eagles three sets to none. Jodie made a big impact in that game, recording 25 assists.

Jodie has been consistent in setting her teammates up all season. The 25 assists performance against Chapin was Jodie’s eighth match with over 20 assists and 15th match with at least 15 assists. Three times she recorded over 30.

River Bluff will have a big test this week when they face off against Lexington. Both teams are undefeated in region play, and this match will break a tie for first place.
