Take precautions against mosquitoes

Posted

Lexington County was spared from flooding by Tropical Storm Florence. But danger has not passed. Rain-filled containers and standing water raises the risk of a familiar threat – mosquitoes. You should take preventative actions such as overturning containers and clearing drainage areas to eliminate breeding sites. Confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in Columbia are reason enough to take precautions. Mosquitoes also carry other diseases and can breed in water in a container as small as a bottle cap. Take these additional preventive measures:

• Pack tree holes with sand.

• Clean clogged roof gutters.

• Keep boats overturned, drained or covered with covers that will not collect water.
