Teacher leaves after hate group accusation

A Lexington County teacher has been accused of ties to hate groups.

Timothy D. Manning Jr. is no longer a Pleasant Hill Middle School teacher, District 1 spokesperson Mary Beth Hill said.

Manning left the district just days after the accusations appeared on social media.

Manning’s attorney denied that he or his wife had ties to hate groups.

“They are not members of, nor do they sympathize in any way with fringe or otherwise prejudicial groups or associations ... The mannings are good, hardworking public servants,” attorney Elizabeth Millender said, according to The State Newspaper.

Manning was a 7th grade social studies teacher, according to the school’s website.

A background check showed that Manning studied history at the University of South Carolina.
