The dark side of deregulation

I’m not a fan of government regulation but deregulation of the financial industry created in large part the mess back in 2008.

It also led to the systemic banking industry fraud that is still being remedied.

Deregulation has resulted in higher prices in the airline industry. Regulation that permits new entrants into the market and eliminates monopolies is fine.

Regulation that prohibits or restricts the ability of essential services and industries such as the financial industry, airlines, and utilities is often needed. There has to be somewhere for the consumer to turn to when these essential services become corrupt or nonresponsive.

At least under the Public Service Commission model although it doesn’t represent the public, there is some accountability.
