AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

Leprechauns, Shamrocks and lots of green ushered in Lexington’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday. With “Luck of the Irish,” rain held off as the 2 pm parade made its way down Main Street.

Lexington’s Blowfish, representing Bill Shanahan’s Blowfish baseball team, led off the parade. The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce was there with President Otis Rawl, grandson Jackson, Sonya Gettys and Adam DeLoache. Our Town Council’s float had Mayor Steve MacDougall and council members Steve Bake, Todd Lyle and daughter Hannah Lyle, Ron Williams and wife Charlotte.

Congressman Joe Wilson and family members waved to onlookers, Ann Farley, Junior Miss Ireland; Tina Guerry, Register of Deeds; and Kristin Stowe, Miss S.C. North America were also in the parade.

There was Irish music and also Irish dancers to entertain the crowd. Many of our emergency services were represented, as well as a dog from the animal shelter.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians joined in the celebration, too. Matt O’Hara was there with his Irish pub float and all geared up for the celebration. It was a fun, Irish day in Lexington.

Sheri Kimball sends us these words of wisdom from Deidre Harmon, president of the Lexington Woman’s Club. “Invest your money wisely while having fun! The club will sponsor its 35th annual golf Tournament March 25 with a noon Shotgun Start. For $250 per twosome, players will enjoy an array of great times, beverages, food, raffles, silent auctions, $2,500 putting contest or win a new vehicle from Herndon Chevrolet for a Hole-in-One.

Proceeds benefit the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation, which serves our communities by purchasing invaluable equipment and training for K-9 deputies and their handlers, and life-saving vests. For more information, contact Angela Rewis at 803-413-8925 or email angelarewis@gmail.com
