Two Lexington County high school head coaches earned coach of the year honors this week.
River Bluff head baseball coach Mark Bonnette was named state coach of the year by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association, while Lexington High School softball coach Laurie Epps was named Region IV-5A coach of the year.
Bonnette led the River Bluff Gators to a 28-7 regular season record and a 5A state championship after sweeping Blythewood in the championship series. It was Bonnette’s third appearance in the championship round and his first time winning.
Epps helped lead her Lexington team to a 24-4-1 and an undefeated region record which led to a Region IV-5A championship.
The Wildcats advanced all the way to the Upper State bracket before falling to James F. Byrnes and Dorman.
