West Columbia carjacker caught

I-95 chase reaches speeds of 125 mph

A West Columbia carjacker is in custody after a chase up to 125 mph.

The unidentified carjacker was captured Saturday night by Dorchester County Sheriff’s deputies.

The sheriff’s office said they were alerted by West Columbia Police that a carjacked vehicle was last seen heading towards Dorchester County.

Deputies spotted the vehicle just after 4:30 pm Saturday near Harleyville.

Speeds reached 125 mph on I-95.

The suspect entered and exited the interstate multiple times.

The pursuit lasted about an hour, after a felony traffic stop was tried due to the violent nature of the crime.

The suspect didn’t stop.

The suspect was caught near Exit 119 on I-95 after the vehicle overturned and was taken to a hospital.

Clarendon County and South Carolina Highway Patrol are working the accident.
