AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The City of West Columbia residents’ opinions on the proposed sign regulation changes on July

23.

The city plans two one-hour meetings, one at noon and another at 6 pm in the New Brookland Room of the West Columbia City Hall, 200 N. 12th St., West Columbia.

Call Planning Director Wayne Shuler with any questions at 791-1889 Ext. 186.

The City of Cayce’s brand new 2019-2020 calendars are out and free to all residents. Go by City Hall at 1800 12th Street and get yours. Each month shares photos and information about city departments. This is a great way to know when governmental meetings take place.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the South Carolina State Museum will launch Space Week, July 20-28. The week will be loaded with space-themed activities for the family. Guests will get to explore the museum’s new Apollo 50: Journey to the Moon exhibit, see the show Fly Me to the Moon in 4D, enjoy special screenings of The Smithsonian Channel’s The Day We Walked the Moon, experience planetarium shows and other activities.

Visitors will be able to design and launch their own  rockets, observe a variety of astronomy-focused stations, and learn about forces and friction with hovercraft rides (Mondays through Thursdays only).

Space Week activities are included with general admission or membership, unless otherwise noted. 4D theater and planetarium shows are an extra $5 each.

More information about Space Week can be found on the South Carolina State Museum’s website.
