Will Democratic socialism work?

“I want to explain it to your readers as I did to my students that a socialist is someone who wants to abolish our market-based capitalist system and replace it with a socialist system in which the means of production are owned and controlled by some entity such as the state or the people.

“There has never been a large-scale society in which a socialist economy has ever been able to produce enough wealth to meet the survival needs of its members. That’s why, if you have the brains that God gave to little chickens, you do not advocate socialism. It has never worked.”

Saluda Broad politely replied that she agreed. In fact, she wrote, “History has proven to most of us that if you want to foul something up, give it to the bureaucrats.”

To that, the professor wrote, “ You sound like a hard-core, extremely conservative Republican who hates our federal government except when it comes to the military and is very closed-minded about it all and cannot disagree respectfully with others.”

For his rudeness, Saluda Broad sent his email address to her spam file. She suggests you do that with unwanted email, too.

If you disagree with Saluda Broad but will do it agreeably, she invites you to write her at chronicleletter@gmail.com .
