Wilton Road construction begins soon

Springdale’s Wilton Road will finally be repaired.

The road was washed out in the October 2015 flood.

Wilton Road repairs will begin in the fall, according to the SC Department of Transportation’s Tony Edwards.

“We are in the pre-construction planning stage now,” Edwards said.

Edwards said the road should be repaired by summer of 2020.

Disputes over ownership of property and permission to work on the site have been resolved.

West Columbia City Councilman Mike Greene and Mayor Bobby Horton saw SCDOT Secretary Christy Hall at the Municipal Association meeting in Greenville last week.

Green said Hall told him a plan to repair the road had been developed.

The traffic count on Wilton Road was 4,400-vehicles a day before it washed out.
