Colorful former prosecutor Dick Harpootlian will face the winner of Tuesday’s Republican runoff in District 20. Harpootlian won the Democratic Party primary last week with 81% of the vote. At stake is long-time state Sen. John Courson’s seat in the Irmo-St Andrews area. Courson resigned in a plea deal over political corruption charges. The runoff is between Republicans Benjamin Dunn and John Holler August 28. The turnout was higher than expected in the republican primary, with about 10% of the eligible voters. Republican Dunn had 32% and Holler 25% of the primary votes. Dunn is a local attorney and a veteran who was deployed in Afghanistan from 2004-2005. Holler is the president of Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia. The other candidates: Democrats Dayna Alane Smith had 11% and Kyle Lacio 8% of primary votes Republicans Christian Stegmaier had 22% and Bill Turbeville 21% of primary votes
